Ein Lied geht um die Welt

Star tenor Joseph Schmidt plays the unsuccessful artist Riccardo, who shares a small flat in Venice with his friend Riga. When he tries his luck in radio, his great international career begins. The whole world loves his voice, including record saleswoman Nina, to whom the melancholy singer loses his heart. The film is based on the real life of the singer, who, as the son of orthodox Jews, emigrated to Austria a few days after the Berlin premiere, just like director Oswald. Schmidt died in an internment camp in Zurich in 1942.
