Dreamers
After living illegally in the United Kingdom for two years, Isio is sent to the Hatchworth Removal Centre. Her hope is that her asylum application will be processed quickly and she can resume her old life. Her roommate Farah, on the other hand, has less faith in the system and is already making escape plans with her friends. Time passes and, amid the daily chaos of the centre, the two women find common ground. A small piece of happiness grows bigger and bigger, and hope springs up. But then Farah's asylum application is rejected.
In her feature film debut, Nigerian-born British director, writer and producer Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor focuses on the fate of two women who defy the cold machinery of the immigration system with their love for each other. DREAMERS provides a complex and rare glimpse into the inner workings of a deportation centre, contrasting it with the unshakeable courage and rebellious strength of its inmates.
