Disengagement

FromAmos Gitai

WithJuliette Binoche, Liron Levo, Jeanne Moreau, Barbara Hendricks, u.a.

Year2007

Duration115min.

The movie takes place in two completely different worlds. Juliette Binoche, an exalted woman in the French provinces, becomes a worried mother on the border between Israel and Gaza, where she wants to meet her daughter, who was once given up for adoption, in an Israeli settler village in Gaza. What happens next can be precisely dated. In August 2005, the Israeli army expels Israeli settlers from the Gaza Strip - by force, because the people want to stay. This disengagement of Israel from the Gaza Strip (for political reasons) became known as disengagement. Gitai is closely oriented to the real events and sometimes tells in an almost documentary way (camera: Christian Berger) of the deadly insanity of this conflict, which plunges people on both sides into suffering.
