Dieser Film ist ein Geschenk

From Anja Salomonowitz

Year 2019

Duration 72 min.

THIS FILM IS A GIFT is a film about the artist Daniel Spoerri. It is actually a film about a thought by Daniel Spoerri: a film almost without Daniel Spoerri, in fact it is mostly acted out by a child - a film about the idea of the eternal cycle, where even disused wooden spoons on the wall can live on as art.

"A remarkable meditation on life." Thomas Taborsky, Die Furche

"Together with Spoerri and her son Oskar, Anja Salomonowitz has made a subtle film in which you can laugh quietly and also cry a little." Ditta Rudle, Tanzschrift

IN MEMORY OF OSKAR SALOMONOWITZ 20.07.2008 - 27.10.2020

Daniel Spoerri creates works of art from found objects that lose their function as soon as he integrates them into his pictures. Anja Salomonowitz makes films dedicated to the visualization of times and conflicts. The intersection of the two is "This Film is a Gift", a work that interweaves the work of both in an extremely personal way. The title of the film already suggests that it is more about a gift than a representation: Salomonowitz thanks Spoerri with a portrait that repeatedly links his work with objects back to his biography: Spoerri, born Feinstein, is the son of a Romanian Jew who was deported and murdered. At the same time, the film looks forward and prolongs a memory by staging Salomonowitz's son Oskar as Spoerri's stand-in and counterpart. Nothing is lost, everything is reassembled again and again in surprising ways. (Dominik Kamalzadeh, film journalist)
