Die Kinder der Toten
Triggered by a bus accident in the mountains, victims of Austria's past return to haunt the country as the living dead. Zombies appear in supermarkets. A secretary, forever trapped in the role of a dutiful daughter, is confronted by a malevolent doppelgänger, driving her overbearing mother into madness. A bitter forester, meanwhile, finds himself pursued by his own sons.
DIE KINDER DER TOTEN is based on Elfriede Jelinek's 1995 novel of the same name, a haunting "ghost novel" that confronts the question of how a nation can come to terms with its own history. American performance and filmmaking duo Kelly Copper and Pavol Liska transform this challenging literary work into a wonderfully eccentric blend of trash cinema, Heimatfilm, zombie horror, and silent film, shot entirely on Super 8 to evoke the spirit of amateur filmmaking.
