Die Jahreszeiten

In her feature-length debut, Maureen Fazendeiro travels through the Alentejo region, transforming landscapes, memories, and legends into an almost mystical cartography of the past and the present. In the most literal sense, she “condenses” testimonies of agricultural workers, field notes by German archaeologists, songs, poems, and local myths into an atmospheric mythology. Her images (shot on 16 mm!) breathe dust and inspire wonder—they do not overwrite history; instead, they gather layers of time, allowing each shot to appear like an archaeological find. An associative arrangement of image and sound that translates resistance and transience into a quiet poetics.
