Die 727 Tage ohne Karamo
Love—this simple word perfectly encapsulates the three films in this program. "CARMEN" is a portrait of a cinema employee who not only sleeps in the theater auditorium but has even gone so far as to propose marriage to it. In "CODENAME: FIGARO", an Austrian woman and a Sri Lankan man arrange a marriage of convenience—rehearsing a police interrogation over the phone. The grueling hurdles of asylum law, contrasted with the persistent longing for love and lightness experienced by 21 binational couples, lie at the heart of "DIE 727 TAGE OHNE KARAMO" ("727 Days Without Karamo"). Through stylized use of color and experimental sound design, the film reveals how state intervention transforms private lives into administrative matters—and, ultimately, into a political issue.
