Der Zopf

India: Smita dreams of her daughter going to school and escaping the misery in which she has to live as an "untouchable". Italy: Giulia works in her father's wig workshop. When he is in a coma after an accident, Giulia has to take over the business and realises that the family business is heavily in debt. Canada: Sarah, a renowned lawyer, is about to be promoted to partner in the firm when she learns that she is seriously ill.

Three lives, three women, three continents - three fates that couldn't be more different. Although Smita, Giulia and Sarah have never met, their lives are interwoven in a moving and unique way.

The finely spun drama DER ZOPF is the latest directorial work by multi-talented Laetitia Colombani ("Madly in Love"), who adapted her own bestselling novel of the same name for the big screen and also wrote the screenplay together with Sarah Kaminsky ("Gauguin"). With a great feel for the moment, she weaves three loose strands into a powerful work of film art about three women and their desire for freedom, in which actresses Mia Maelzer ("Stolen"), Kim Raver ("Grey's Anatomy") and Fotinì Peluso ("Greek Salad") inspire with their intense performances. The homage to the self-determination of women is accompanied by the soulful compositions of Ludovico Einaudi ("Pretty Best Friends").
