Der Schatten von Caravaggio

Italy 1610: Michelangelo Merisi, better known as Caravaggio, defies the rules of the Catholic Church, which prescribe how religious subjects are to be depicted. When Pope Paul V learns that his works depict prostitutes, thieves and vagabonds, he orders the Vatican secret service to investigate whether Caravaggio should be granted the clemency he has been asking for since he was sentenced to death for murder. The investigator begins his research, which leads him to discover the contradictory vices and virtues of the artist whose life - or death - is in his hands.
