Das Mädchen Wadjda

The debut film of a woman who comes from a country where women are forbidden to drive. And girls are forbidden to ride bicycles. But that's exactly what the headstrong and self-confident Wadjda wants, an eleven-year-old girl who has won enough money in a school competition to fulfill this special wish. Free of clichés and predictable didactics, the film, which is actually an impossibility, spreads the image of Saudi Arabian society and culture in a realistic way. And in it, young Wadjda does not find the place she dreams of and claims for herself.
