Disaster strikes Bad Leonfelden in the Mühlviertel when local decision-makers discover that the provincial government in Linz is planning to merge two small neighbouring towns with the ‘regional capital’. But they have no desire to become part of this municipal association – for too long have the spa town residents looked down on their neighbours and
portrayed themselves as the highland elite. As if that weren’t enough, a scandal also seems to be looming, attracting national attention and bringing the tax authorities in Linz onto the scene. Have they stood by for too long whilst the once-flourishing tourism industry went down the drain? And where on earth has the mayor responsible gone?

To make matters worse, sinister figures from the Czech underworld also enter the fray, playing their very own game in this cross-border chess match… A story unfolds that humorously pokes fun at typical Austrian customs, entertainingly spanning the spectrum from cronyism to a love story, and which can be placed somewhere between Braunschlag, the successful Eberhofer crime novels and the Piefke Saga.
