Duration 88 min.

1756: In the palace of Saxon Premier Count Brühl, cheerfulness and merriment reign, while behind the scenes a plot is being hatched by the Count and envoys from all over Europe against Frederick II. But the versatile and smart Prussian king beats his opponents to the punch and proves his tactical skilfulness ...
The audience goes into ecstasy when they hear Otto Gebühr speak as Frederick for the first time, but the film points to what was to come from 1933 with a sense of the military. It is true, says Reisch, that he had his greatest successes at that time with lighter material, ‘but it wasn't difficult either, people only saw it as a Nazi film because it featured Frederick the Great. But it was a comedy and I was everything but a Nazi.’ (Florian Widegger)
