Daratt (Dry Season)
A loner lies at the heart of "Daratt": a young man sent to avenge his father's murder. The killer—now around sixty and a respected baker—unknowingly hires the young man as his apprentice. An unusual bond slowly develops between the two, complicated by the older man's attractive young wife; the baker soon intends to adopt his helper as a son. Mahamat-Saleh Haroun tells the story with clarity and beauty, using concise vignettes and vivid colors, leading to a wonderful conclusion: under certain circumstances, forgiveness is possible, for revenge is literally blind.
