Dances with Wolves

Lieutenant John J. Dunbar is transferred to an outpost in the frontier, in the "Wild West". Loneliness and fear of the Sioux characterise his everyday life, but "He who dances with the wolf" is eventually accepted into their circle. The idyll doesn't last long when the army tracks down the "Indian friend" and takes him prisoner for desertion ... Costner didn't exactly make it easy for himself with his directorial debut: a western was considered a box office poison in 1990, the film was three hours long and the indigenous actors spoke Lakota, which is why half of it had to be subtitled. Eric Pleskow, on the other hand, saw the potential and backed it - and rightly so: the production costs of 19 million were offset by more than ten times the revenue, and seven Oscars rained down on top.
