Maia, Yenifer and Luciana begin a new chapter in their lives as care workers in a nursing home. Their previous routines give way to uniforms, long shifts and the daily demands of caring for ageing bodies and people whose cognitive and memory functions are increasingly impaired. As three trans women in a society that frequently misgenders and excludes them, they face the complex challenges of care work while also finding their feet in an unfamiliar environment.

With patience, humour and small gestures woven into everyday routines, they gradually earn the residents’ trust. Having previously made their living through sex work, the three women discover unexpected connections with the people in their care. Across generations that often seem worlds apart, a shared space of experience begins to emerge.

CUIDADORAS is a tender and necessary portrait of care, recognition and the unexpected intimacies that can arise when we learn to see one another beyond our differences.
