CRY FREEDOM, directed by Oscar-winning director Richard Attenborough (Gandhi), tells the true story of the charismatic freedom fighter Steve Biko. As journalist Donald Woods begins to uncover the shocking circumstances surrounding Biko’s death, he himself becomes a target of the brutal apartheid regime. CRY FREEDOM is a gripping testament to friendship, justice and the indomitable human spirit. The film was released in cinemas worldwide in 1987 and helped to increase international pressure on South Africa to abolish apartheid.
