Cotton Queen

In a cotton-growing village in Sudan, young Nafisa leads a simple life, picking cotton and learning from her grandmother. But the arrival of a young Sudanese businessman threatens to change everything.

Nafisa grows up listening to the heroic tales of her grandmother Al-Sit, the village matriarch, who recounts the struggle against British colonial rule. But when a businessman from abroad arrives with a new development plan and genetically modified cotton seeds, Nafisa finds herself at the centre of a power struggle over the village’s future. As she discovers her own strength, she sets out to save both the cotton fields and herself. Neither Nafisa nor her community will ever be the same again.
