Macbeth as a zany comedy? No, this is not a daredevil reinterpretation of the classic material. Instead, the story focuses on the truly frantic final three hours before Nina (Pauline Clément) premieres her first original production at the historic Comédie-Française. Yet, the moment Nina steps into those hallowed halls, everything seems to conspire against her. Interpersonal tensions, colleagues acting with gross negligence, technical glitches of a particularly troublesome sort, and even Molière himself threaten to plunge the evening into chaos. It is reason enough for Nina to call the whole thing off—but at the Comédie-Française, there is an unwritten rule: the show goes on—under no circumstances is it cancelled!
