Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman: the North African heat and the sluggishly rotating fans, the big politics and those stranded in this godforsaken place, Rick's American Café; a heartbreaking love story; the guy arming himself with cynicism and the other guy's wife; his selfless renunciation, her parting tears and the song ‘As time goes by’ that bundles all longings. A masterpiece still unappreciated by the critics.
