Call Jane

The United States in the late 1960s. Joy, a housewife and mother, becomes pregnant again unintentionally. The doctor's warning that the pregnancy could be life-threatening for her presents her with a difficult decision, as abortions are illegal. Desperate, she turns to the feminist organisation ‘Jane’, which organises safe and affordable underground abortions and fights for women's rights.

Based on the true story of the Jane Collective, which was active in Chicago from 1969 to 1973, Phyllis Nagy conveys a stirring, cinematic message of empowerment in her directorial debut. Sigourney Weaver and Elizabeth Banks shine in the leading roles of this inspiring feminist drama.
