Retrospective

Buchpräsentation und Film: The Greatest Mother of ’em All

From Robert Aldrich

Year 1969

Language English

Christoph Huber, a programmer at the Film Museum, has written the bilingual book "Robert Aldrich: Hollywood Rebel/Rebell in Hollywood" to accompany the retrospective. This marks the first time a major publication in German has been dedicated to this subversive, exceptional director. The book, which traces Aldrich’s remarkable career and biography, will be presented in conversation with director Ted Fendt. As part of the presentation, there will also be a unique opportunity to see an absolute rarity from Aldrich’s body of work: "The Greatest Mother of ’em All" was a feature-length film project by Aldrich in which he once again explored the dark side of Hollywood. When the financiers hesitated, Aldrich used his own studio to produce a promotional short film featuring selected key scenes, but he was unable to convince the financiers. We’ll be screening this half-hour film, which was never released.
