Medien Archive Austria (MAA)—the umbrella organization for Austrian audiovisual archives, museums, and collections—is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, with the Film Museum hosting the commemorative event. Since its inception, the MAA has been dedicated to ensuring that audio and visual documents are preserved, cataloged, and made accessible to the public as part of Austria’s cultural memory.

The evening offers an insight into the history and work of the MAA and its members, alongside a keynote lecture by renowned media scholar Prof. Dr. Carolyn Birdsall (University of Amsterdam). Speaking on the topic "Future-proofing the AV Archive in Uncertain Times," she will present proposals regarding the future of media archiving. Afterward, an interdisciplinary panel will discuss the challenges facing the preservation of audiovisual heritage in the coming decades. Finally, we will raise a glass together to 50 years of the MAA!
