Becks

After a painful break-up with her girlfriend, folk musician Becks moves back from Brooklyn to her hometown of St. Louis to find herself far away from the hustle and bustle of New York's artistic scene.

But first she is busy sorting out sexual liberties with her strict Catholic mother and earning some money. Since the singing gigs in her old mate Dave's bar only bring in a few dollars in tips, she decides to give guitar lessons. Her first pupil is the shy Elyse, who is married to Beck's old high school nemesis Mitch of all people. An intimate relationship quickly develops between the two women, which throws Elyse's previous life plan into turmoil ...
The directing duo Elizabeth Rohrbaugh and Daniel Powell were inspired for BECKS by the life of US singer/songwriter Alyssa Robbins, who also wrote most of the bittersweet love songs in the film. In addition to the touching soundtrack, BECKS is carried above all by its strong ensemble of actresses: alongside newcomer Lena Hall, Christine Lahti shines as Beck's devout but kind-hearted mother Ann and Mena Suvari as young wife Elyse, who threatens to suffocate from boredom and listlessness between the walls of her huge suburban villa.
