Bad Shabbos
A Shabbat evening should really be characterised by the warm glow of candlelight, a convivial atmosphere, nostalgic conversations and family traditions. But sometimes things turn out differently. The film *Friday Night* is set in New York, though it could just as easily be set in Vienna, Berlin or Paris. A young Jewish-non-Jewish couple finally wants to bring their parents together. It’s actually quite simple, isn’t it? A black Jewish comedy that’s refreshing in more ways than one. And anyone who can’t find anything funny in a botched Shabbat can certainly enjoy the city and its Jewish culinary hotspots, such as Zabar’s. New York audiences identified with the film and awarded it the Audience Award at the Tribeca Festival.
