With great ambitions in his luggage, Mexican immigrant Manny Torres (Diego Calva) travels to the booming film industry in Hollywood during the 1920s. Film star Jack Conrad (Brad Pitt) not only succeeds in making the biggest films of his time with ease, but up-and-coming actress Nellie LaRoy (Margot Robbie) becomes a sought-after star alongside him.
However, when the film industry undergoes a massive change with the advent of sound film in 1927, the careers of stars and staff are at stake.
