In a bleak future, an illegal virtual reality game called Avalon has become an addictive parallel world. Players immerse themselves in highly realistic battles, fighting for points, fame, and money. Ash, one of the game's most skilled players, is searching for a mysterious forbidden quest that promises to take her to an even deeper and more enigmatic level of the game.

Mamoru Oshii's AVALON (2001) combines science fiction, cyberpunk, and philosophical questions about reality and identity into a visually striking and atmospheric film. Through its desaturated imagery and hypnotic style, the boundaries between the virtual world and reality gradually begin to dissolve.
