May 1945. As opponents of communism retreat from Ljubljana to Carinthia, doctors Janež and Meršol face a cruel moral dilemma.
May 1945, Ljubljana. After the end of World War II and the communist takeover, many opponents of communism leave Yugoslavia and flee to their English allies in Carinthia. Among them are wounded members of the Home Guard, as well as doctors Dr. Janez Janež and Dr. Valentin Meršol traveling with their families on the Ljubljana hospital train. Their principles and conscience are put to the test as they confront the harsh truth that they cannot save everyone—ensuring the survival of some means the death of others.
