Asterix und Kleopatra

From René Goscinny, Albert Uderzo

Year 1968

Duration 72 min.

Language French

The Roman general Julius Caesar considers the Egyptians an incompetent people. Their ruler, the beautiful Cleopatra, wants to prove him wrong and commissions her architect, Numerobis, to build a palace unlike anything the world has ever seen. The problem: he has only three months to do it. Numerobis therefore turns to his old friend Getafix for help. The druid promptly sets off with Asterix and Obelix—leaving Romans, saboteurs, and pirates to face the consequences. In this amusing animated film, directed by the creators of the original comics themselves, we learn a great deal about daily life in ancient Egypt and what happened to the Sphinx's face, as well as what the hungry Obelix dreams of one night: dancing wild boars and singing Emmental cheeses.
