Anhell69

Theo Montoya had actually planned to make a queer feature film: about ghosts, nocturnal subculture in Medellín and sexual desire. A film that breaks all the formal rules - "una película 'trans'". When he finally cast his lead actor, who goes by the name "Anhell69" on Instagram, he died a few days later from a heroin overdose. More deaths follow. Fiction becomes reality, the feature film project becomes a documentary. The ghosts of his friends are the protagonists who walk through the film that was finally made.

Montoya skilfully combines discarded casting shots, excessive party scenes, melancholy video diaries and trashy ghost film scenes in this autobiographical, hybrid film. The filmic interstice reveals the essential questions of life: What comes after death and how much does one love life? In this eerily beautiful, unsparingly honest debut, the Colombian director provides deep insights into his soul. At the same time, he portrays the young, queer community in Colombia: a generation characterised by transgenerational trauma that is often closer to death than to life.
