Amílcar
The agronomist, political theorist and revolutionary Amílcar Cabral led the first resistance movement in sub-Saharan Africa to achieve independence from colonial rule through armed struggle. Drawing on his poems, letters to both his wives and political pamphlets – read by Cape Verdean director Nuno Miranda – Miguel Eek traces Cabral’s life through associative sequences of images, police reports and archive footage. The result is a multi-layered portrait of a diplomatic, yet at times ruthless, visionary who was assassinated in 1973.
