Eight Oscars and the zeitgeist of bringing the sacredly transfigured back to earth helped the passionate satirist Forman to popularise a demystified image of Mozart. The life of the brilliant composer is told from the perspective of his eternal rival Antonio Salieri, who, now tormented by feelings of guilt, has ended up in an insane asylum. He sees Mozart as a big baby who - unlike himself - writes brilliant music and thus jeopardises his own career ... Forman breaks with the traditions of classical biopics in this "magical" work, which has been praised by critics for its perfectly coordinated rhythm and tempo, and shows Mozart as a superstar, which in turn inspired one of his contemporaries: Rock me, Amadeus!
