Alles was wir haben + Vlog #8998
Two playful anti-nostalgia films that throw surprising, angry and humorous spanners in the works of discourses on identity, belonging and history. One takes the form of a sound-and-image collage by Volko Kamensky that falls apart before our very eyes and ears, as he investigates an arson attack at the local heritage museum in a small town in Lower Saxony. The voices of an archivist and the museum director vanish, at times behind the chirping of garden birds, at times behind Kamensky’s own voice. And in another instance, in the unabashed form of social media, where Ji Su Kang-Gatto finds in its aesthetic a means to recount the experiences of two sisters, one of whom grew up in Germany and the other in Korea. Make-up routines and emojis flashing into the frame create spaces of resonance for an urgent engagement with racism and statelessness. (P.H.)
