All The Lovers In The Night
Fuyuko works from home as a freelance proofreader, specialising in spotting the subtle, tricky mistakes in manuscripts that no one else would notice. Her days are much the same. She avoids socialising, wears oversized clothes, and tends to be quiet in conversation. A social outsider, she has only one person she might call a friend: her colleague Hijiri. What she does love is walking through Tokyo late at night, when even the metropolis seems to be asleep. One night, at an inopportune moment, Mitsutsuka, a physics teacher, comes to her aid and helps her out of an awkward situation. They begin seeing each other, meeting in restaurants and cafés and going on long walks together. He tells her about his passion for physics, his fascination with particles and the behaviour of light; she tells him about the tiny mistakes that only she can see. Something tender begins to grow between them, carefully nurtured alongside their personal vulnerabilities. But hidden lies and a carefully concealed past eventually resurface, taking their toll on the fragile bond they have formed.
