A Woman’s Torment

"Disturbing" aptly describes any film by Roberta Findlay, yet *A Woman’s Torment* fits the label even more precisely than the rest of her work, blending elements of Roman Polanski’s *Repulsion* (1965), pornography, and gore. Karen is slated to be committed to a secure psychiatric facility—her family simply wants some peace—but she flees instead, hiding out in a seaside house where she confronts her inner demons... Findlay always resisted being labeled a feminist, though it is difficult not to detect such tendencies in this psychodrama. A powerful experience! (Olaf Möller)
