A Unique Country in Asia
Yoko lives with her husband in Tokyo, where she spends her days caring for his bedridden father. But when her husband goes to work, the house takes on an entirely different function: upstairs, Yoko secretly receives male clients for the sole purpose of transactional sex. Her husband knows nothing about it, while the neighbour is becoming increasingly obsessed with the sounds coming through the walls.
Yoko approaches both her work and her private life with a strangely matter-of-fact calm. What truly occupies her, however, is politics. She harbours a passionate hatred of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and turns her encounters with clients primarily into unexpected and extended political conversations. She is not afraid to let her clients know when they do not share her political views. Emerging from the tension between pink film and biting social satire, one absurd situation after another unfolds.
