The Obinata Fireworks Factory, once nestled in a lush, green forest, is set to be demolished the next day by administrative order; the plan is to extend a prefectural road right through the site. For four years, Keitaro has shut himself away in the abandoned factory, where he crafts fireworks all by himself. He is determined to unravel the mystery of the Shuhari—a mythical firework that symbolizes the universe and was created by his father before he vanished without a trace. A NEW DAWN is a story about a family’s legacy, childhood friendship, and the impact of climate change and urban sprawl on a picturesque little village.
