Anja Salomonowitz: "I had planned to retreat on my 50th birthday and, quite simply, do absolutely nothing. But then came the offer of a 'carte blanche' for that evening—and so, I’ll be at the cinema after all. How wonderful! Virgil Widrich, the father of my children, once gave a talk for some friends—a talk that was marvelous, moving, delightful, funny, and truly astonishing—about the films that Oskar himself had made. OSKAR’S FILMS. I asked him to repeat that presentation for this evening. And afterwards, I’ll be screening "Otto – Der Film", because it’s a part of my childhood—and, yes, a part of my adult life, too. I know every line by heart. And if anyone says, 'That’s a curious, perhaps even crazy, combination,' well, I just think: that’s how things are now. Pain and laughter have become inseparable. That’s what life is like these days."
