30 Jahre, aber den Sinn des Lebens habe ich immer noch nicht rausgefunden
This long-term self-portrait, which German filmmaker Jan Peters started at the age of 24, follows a simple, self-imposed concept. Every year on his birthday, he films a long Super8 reel and briefly summarises it. In practice, this proves to be an extremely varied endeavour. Firstly because of all the technical imponderables: Sometimes the camera hangs. Sometimes the sound is not synchronised. Sometimes expired film material produces incalculable effects - or video proves to be completely unsuitable due to a lack of time restrictions. On the other hand, the filmmaker, who starts the project in front of the poster for Außer Atem with "Attention, this is a young man's film", is an engaging self-promoter and contemporary witness. His monologues are (not only) about private matters. They are about time and money. They open up to a wide variety of topics and larger contexts. "Life is 24 truths a day." (M.B. / N.K. / I.R.)
