20 Days in Mariupol

FromMstyslav Chernov

Year2023

Duration94min.

Ukraine's entry for the Oscars reveals the fate of Ukrainian journalists trapped in the embattled port city of Mariupol. As the last international voices on the ground, they document the atrocities of the Russian invasion. Facing constant threats from bombings and scarce resources, they tirelessly strive to make their reports accessible to the world. They defy immense dangers and the pervasive presence of Russian troops to expose the unvarnished truth. A gripping insight into courageous war reporting and the journalism that portrays a besieged country.

At 7:00 pm, Stadtkino will host an open discussion titled "Documentaries as a Fragile Shelter for Truth, Responsibility, and Impact." This discussion will be moderated by Kseniya Kharchenko, the Project Manager of the Documenting Ukraine program at the IWM and a writer. The panel will include notable individuals such as Alisa Kovalenko, film director (We Will Not Fade Away); Roman Liubyi, film director (Iron Butterflies); Stephane Siohan, film producer and Kyiv correspondent of the newspaper Libération; and Katherine Younger, Co-Head of the Documenting Ukraine program at the IWM and a Permanent Fellow at the IWM.

Following the discussion, at 8:00 pm, there will be a reception at Stadtkino, providing an opportunity for networking and further discussions.
