Bellaria Kino Reloaded
Starting October 1st, with our “Bellaria Reloaded” initiative, we are revisiting German-language film history and our own past as a pilgrimage site for “Heimatfilm” (regional films) and UFA nostalgia. In collaboration with the Jewish cinema initiative HAWARA, the Löwenherz bookstore, and the “Warme Brüder” podcast, we are bringing three film series to the screen:
“(NIE) WIEDER HEIMATFILM” – What do cinematic images of homeland and nation actually convey? Featuring introductory talks by Prof. Klaus Davidowicz, in cooperation with the University of Vienna’s Departments of Jewish Studies, Contemporary History, and Theatre, Film and Media Studies.
“SHOOTING NAZIS” – Spanning mainstream, exploitation, and cult cinema, this series celebrates a cinematic counter-culture that deconstructs images of perpetrators, demystifies Nazis, and counters historical romanticization with genre tropes and dark humor.
“CAMP & COMBAT” – Queer filmmaking amidst persecution, resistance, and solidarity—but also camp, glamour, and subversive humor. We connect queer cinema with the political present, exploring the stories a cinema tells and those that have gone untold for years.
