South Tyrol, 1961. The northern Italian region is shaken by a series of separatist bomb attacks. While Paul, the son of a farmer, wants to escape the lack of prospects in his village and study painting, his older brother Anton fights uncompromisingly for the protection of the German-speaking minority – by force if necessary. After Anton is exposed as one of the bombers, he flees, leaving behind his farm and family. Reluctantly, Paul postpones his own plans to support Anton's wife Anna and their young son. As the situation escalates and the Italian police crack down, Anna begins to increasingly rebel against the patriarchal structures of her environment. Paul, on the other hand, must decide between family loyalty and personal fulfillment.

In his cinema debut, director Michael Kofler vividly and poignantly illuminates the events surrounding the “Night of Fire” in South Tyrol. Thomas Prenn (HOCHWALD) and Laurence Rupp (VENI VIDI VICI) give convincing performances as contrasting brothers alongside Aenne Schwarz (LEIBNIZ – CHRONIK EINES VERSCHOLLENEN BILDES) as a modern-day visionary.
