Zwa traurige Buam
In 1945, the brothers Ernst and Peter were captured as young members of the Wehrmacht in what was then Yugoslavia. They spent several years there before they were released and returned home. In 2005, filmmaker Gabriele Hochleitner travelled back to the Balkans with her father and uncle. Against this backdrop, the two old men reminisce about the war, their childhood and youth.
The director takes an extraordinary look at the men's relationship and their shared history: funny, sad, heartfelt and open. Encounters with people and landscapes bring back memories that continue to have an effect in the evening in the various hotel rooms during intimate conversations. The different characters of the two brothers come to light. What they have in common is singing and stories from their childhood. In the way they tell their stories and talk, they become the farm boys they were back then.
