Zur Lage

FromBarbara Albert, Michael Glawogger, Ulrich Seidl, Michael Sturminger

Year2002

Duration85min.

The film Zur Lage is highly topical, it is also a film about the situation in Austria in 2024. 4 February 2000 was the first time (in Europe) that an extreme right-wing party, the FPÖ with its party leader Jörg Haider, entered a governing coalition. 2024 could be worse: the FPÖ could become the strongest force in the elections in September. And then what happens next? Three male and one female director are travelling through Austria at the time and seeking dialogue. What do the people think? Most of them are unperturbed by the political situation. It simply doesn't interest them. Or, yes, Haider, he has a few good ideas. The conversations that Glawogger has are the most personal. He is travelling as a hitchhiker and always sits in the passenger seat. Thoughts can be expressed that you wouldn't say in person. So: The situation in Austria sucks ... Only someone like Jörg Haider ... But actually, the only thing that counts is your own good life. How would these conversations go today? We need a film about the situation in 2024 (Birgit Flos)
