Wild Relatives
“A seed is like love in the hearts of people,” declares a poet at the reopening of the agricultural center evacuated from Syria to Lebanon.
The film Wild Relatives powerfully documents how plant seeds from Aleppo were, for the first time, withdrawn from the seed vault established in the Norwegian permafrost, transported to Lebanon for regeneration, and then returned again. Viewed through the prism of the Syrian catastrophe, as well as the globally uneven impacts of species extinction and climate change, the preservation and transmission of local seeds becomes an act of resistance.
