Wien retour
Ruth Beckermann and Josef Aichholzer […] place one person, Franz West, at the centre of their film: a Jewish social democrat and communist. Without any particular cinematic or documentary embellishment, we hear about this man's fate and yet see the fate of the whole of Austria unfolding before us. […] I have never seen a documentary film in which I felt the connection between man and history so deeply. A person like Franz West has little public exposure in Austria. His life cannot be summed up with media buzzwords; it is too rich for that. His actions cannot be demonstrated by a single deed; he has done too much for that. […] His courage is not spectacular, but continuous. His humour does not freeze in quick, quotable bon mots, it warms an entire combative life."
