White Bird

Young Julian (Bryce Gheisar) has shown great disdain towards a classmate born with a facial deformity. His French grandmother Sara (Helen Mirren) therefore tells him a story: as a Jewish girl (Ariella Glaser) in France in the 1940s, she has to watch Nazi Germany occupy her homeland. The Jewish population is systematically rounded up and the children from Sara's village are also targeted by the cruel new rulers. However, the girl is rescued and hidden by her classmate Julien - even though he has no reason to like her: Julien's appearance is disfigured by polio, which is why Sara and other schoolmates have teased him incessantly in the past. However, when they get to know each other better in the hiding place, Sara has the chance to get rid of her prejudices.
