"You can't get a job without an address; you can't get an address without a job." Young jobless and homeless Wendy (Michelle Williams) is on her way to Ketchikan, Alaska. The summer attracts those who expect lucrative jobs there through 'King Salmon'. With a few dollars in her pocket, an old car and her dog Lucy, she sets off for the coast.

When Wendy's car breaks down in a small town in Oregon, she has no money to repair it. Penniless and with the aim of somehow making it to Alaska, the young woman commits a shoplifting offence. Then the mechanism of marginalisation kicks in and won't let go when Wendy is caught.

WENDY AND LUCY tackles the intricacies of marginalisation, oppression and poverty. The familiar story of the penniless search for work is criss-crossed by fine lines and ruptures: it is the inconspicuous encounters and relationships that make the complex system of rich and poor that weaves itself around Wendy's life, constricting her ever more tightly, brutally tangible.
