We Never Left
WE NEVER LEFT, directed by Loulwa Khoury, is a powerful documentary set against the backdrop of the Lebanese Revolution that erupted on October 17, 2019. The film follows three young Lebanese expatriates in New York who, despite living abroad, feel a deep connection to the uprisings and social struggles in their homeland.
Through their individual and collective journeys, the film reveals the complex emotional and political double bind between Beirut and the diaspora: the enduring love for a country marked by crises, exile, and unfulfilled hopes for change. By intertwining protest movements, personal memories, and life between two worlds, the film creates an intimate portrait of a generation shaped by displacement, solidarity, and the persistent hope for a Lebanon beyond civil war, political instability, and economic collapse.
