In 1996, Peter Kubelka created the *Cyclic Program: What Is Film* to commemorate the centenary of cinema. According to Kubelka, the program “uses examples to define film as an autonomous art form, a tool that conveys new ways of thinking. In 63 programs, it offers young filmmakers and everyone seriously engaging with the medium of film a foundational overview.”

The accompanying book, *What Is Film: Peter Kubelka’s Cyclic Program at the Austrian Film Museum*, is available at the Film Museum’s box office for a special price of €9.
