Director Alina Maksimenko is living in Irpin when the Russian war of aggression begins in February 2022. She packs her cat and camera and flees from the approaching front to her parents northwest of Kyiv. She actually wants to go on, to get herself and her parents to safety behind the border. But they stay. In the hope that the situation will calm down, the threatening noise of war becomes ever louder. Caught in an intermediate state that becomes increasingly unbearable, everyday activities and worrying about the cats left behind in the neighborhood bring supposed peace and normality.
W ZAWIESZENIU is not dedicated to the violent images of war, rather it is a meticulous portrait of waiting and the power of survival.
